Week 3 Discussion: Oversharing Online

Image
Evan Reynante How important is online communication? I think that with this type of question, you will generally get two different responses. Some people will say that they like social media and think it’s a good thing. People with this perspective may think it does not affect their relationships. However, others may say that they don’t like it and that they aren’t conforming to societal standards of always including it within their lives, stating that they are being an individual that does not need to rely on external influence. Generally, I have not used social media like Facebook or Instagram. But I have used discord, WhatsApp, and you tube. Along with the benefits like connections over long distance or being able to show different parts of your life it comes with many disadvantages in terms of mental health. For example everyone on social media wants to understandably show the best parts of their life. The unfortunate and unintended side effect is that some people seeing that...

Week 2 Discussion: Knapp's Relational Model

Image
The relationship that I want to talk about is the one I have with my High School friend group. We all met during freshman year in our school's FRC robotics team and have been together throughout high school and even during COVID. I believe that we are currently in the bonding stage of our relationship. We have spent much time together during school, especially throughout the robotics build season, where we would stay after school until eight every day building and designing a robot together. Even though many of us, unfortunately, went to different schools, we still actively communicated with each other over Discord. So far, we have been doing well in that regard. I am also fortunate enough to go home over breaks, which is when we can all see each other again. Even after being apart, we can still communicate, have fun, and discuss our struggles and personal hardships.

About Me

Evan Reynante  Hello everyone! My name is Evan. I am originally from San Diego, California. I am currently a freshman at Oregon State University. My goal is to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace. Engineering has been a long-standing interest of mine since High School. There, I was a member of the Titanbot Robotics team, where I gained valuable experience, made lifelong friends, and paved the way for my interest in beginning this new journey here in Oregon to achieve my aspirations of working in the aerospace field. I am the only one from my high school at this university that I know of anyway. Yet, despite many uncertainties, I am doing my best to face the challenges of moving to a new place. To build a community here at OSU, I have joined many organizations such as Combat Robotics, Blacksmithing, Rocket, and Gaming clubs. In addition, I continue to explore my hobbies of playing video games and building Gundam models.      ...
